How is your data working for you?
We exist to support health system professionals to think critically about harnessing the power of health data. We approach this work with curiosity and compassion and help leaders across the health system steward equity and design inclusive digital health solutions.

Associate Professor at Western University
Dr. Lorie Donelle
Lorie Donelle was inspired to launch Health in All Data from her research across health literacy, equity, and digital health. She is an Associate Professor at Western University in the Arthur Labatt Family School of Nursing and a Scientist with the Lawson Health Research Institute in London Ontario and is an inaugural member of Fellows of the Canadian Academy of Nursing (FCAN).
She holds an endowed research chair – the Arthur Labatt Family Chair in Nursing focused on digital health. Dr. Donelle’s research addresses health promotion specific to issues of health & digital health literacy(s), social justice, and digital health. Her research investigates technology-enabled models of healthcare and the relationships between health information technologies and client/clinician health practices.
Dr. Donelle contributes to International and national advisory committees for health literacy and digital health.
Understanding “Health in All Data”
Our work is grounded in the social determinants of health, which consider the economic and social conditions that influence our health.
This includes systems like social services, education, employment, or financial services to name a few.
Within this context, data collected across these systems, such as purchasing history, fitness indicators and location data, can paint a picture of your health and may reveal intimate details about your life.
This information is increasingly sold to third-parties to target us with ads based on our preferences and ultimately profit off our personal data. While this seems harmless, the scope and reach of these practices are rapidly expanding – this practice can be used as a tool for surveillance and is/will disproportionately impact marginalized communities

Active Research Projects
Health Data Dialogues: Supporting Data Stewards for the Future of Health Care
Health Data Dialogues is a knowledge mobilization and outreach initiative designed to support thought leadership among individuals working across the ecosystem of digital health data collection and use.
Digital surveillance for pandemics: A planning resource for decision-makers
This research project investigates digital technological surveillance strategies purported to mitigate the spread and scope of COVID-19. Patel (2020) argues that “while data can save lives at times of global public health crisis…it can only do this effectively if its use, management and governance, even at times of crisis, is underpinned by clear rules (grounded in law, ethics and human rights) about how best to use data; and trust in institutions to use data well”.
Drones for Health: Building a multidisciplinary research agenda
The objective of this study is to enhance our understanding of the key considerations to be addressed to ensure drone technologies deployed across the health system are used in an equitable, ethical, appropriate, and socially responsible manner.
‘REDI to Care’: Reimagining Systems and Services that Engage Older Adults in Equitable, Diverse, and Inclusive Care
The primary goal of this big idea initiative is to provide accessible care to individuals residing in LTC institutions and/or within the community. To accomplish this, we are proposing several concurrent and parallel project components.
